The OOA Specialty Symposium has been a Fall favourite for Ontario opticians and we have seen the attendance grow substantially over the last few years. Due to this popularity, we will be presenting Symposium every year. Our last Symposium had a sellout attendance and we expect even bigger numbers in 2017. Due to popular demand, we are now offering a trade show during this event. To accommodate our increased numbers of attendees, and in order to give our industry partners an opportunity to network with Ontario opticians, we have also moved the Symposium to the Sheraton Parkway Toronto North in Richmond Hill. OOA Specialty Symposium 2017 will take place on Sunday October 15, 2017.

Our line-up of presentations is shaping up nicely with a variety of presentations and workshops. Randy Kojima of Precision Technologies will be sharing his expertise in a morning workshop that will include live fittings of specialty contact lenses and a key note address in the afternoon.

In the afternoon, your fellow opticians, Amber Fournier and Zully Kasmani will be hosting a workshop where they will share their Low Vision knowledge. Topics will include a review of what Low Vision is and how we as opticians can provide assessments, products and services to our patients. Amber will share her business model of providing home visits to those needing Low Vision assessments and products.

Dr. Nav Nijhawan

Dr. Nav Nijhawan will be enlightening us with his presentation, Colour Me Red. This presentation will be a discussion on the red eye and what critical signs opticians can use to triage patients to ensure timely access to care when these individuals seek help at their offices with complaints of a red eye.

Other presentation topics will include:

Digital Lenses, 3D Frame Printing, COO update, and other topics to be announced.
